Business led collaboration secures landmark power success in the Philippines

2017-01-27 - ABB has recently announced an order to provide reliable power supply for select phases of a critical transformer replacement program in the Philippines. Behind this success lies a story of how colleagues from across different businesses, countries and regions and different levels of the organization pulled together to make it happen.

As part of a national program to upgrade aging infrastructure and strengthen the grid to bring more power to consumers, ABB will supply 18 transformer units to the National Grid Company of the Philippines for installation at key substations across the country. As the country advances economically, reliable power supply will be key to its development.

The execution of the $27 million order will involve a number of countries in Asia - China and Vietnam will be responsible for the manufacturing of the small and large power transformers, while the Philippines will handle the local works and commissioning for the projects.

“This order is among the largest for ABB in the Philippines, and was only made possible by the close partnership with the customer, which was equally matched by the extended internal collaboration, flexibility and commitment” said John Fyfe, Country Managing Director for ABB in the Philippines.

The groundwork for the order was laid at the ABB Transformer Days event held in Bangkok which provided an opportunity to brief the customer and showcase our offering.

“Everyone involved demonstrated ABB’s value pairs and this success truly shows that acting as a united team can make a world of difference. The way we demonstrated our commitment and willingness to NGCP helped to build a stronger relationship and openness, while our united front was a good example of customer focus in action” adds Markus Heimbach, Managing Director, BU Transformers.
