Solar tracker demo is highlight of ABB’s presence at Intersolar North America

2011-07-11 - ABB, recently named as one of the most influential companies in the solar industry by a leading trade magazine, is presenting a range of solutions for the industry at the Intersolar event in San Francisco this week, including a demonstration of technology that enables solar installations to track the sun.

Solar trackers increase the productivity of solar plants by increasing their exposure to sunshine, and ABB provides core components for tracking systems including programmable logic controllers and drives. ABB will be present at booth #7169 in the Moscone Center from July 11-14.

ABB had a major presence at the related Intersolar Europe event in Munich, Germany, last month where it presented its range of inverters and its new inverter care contract. In the run-up to the San Francisco event, US trade publication Renewable Energy Focus named ABB as one of the 10 new “Solar Movers & Shakers.”

ABB has a range of technologies for photovoltaic facilities, including inverters, low-voltage components and grid connection solutions as well as turnkey EPC services for PV power plants. It also provides complete power and automation solutions for all the main concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies.

“ABB has been in the solar energy business since the early 1990s, and since that time we have become a key global component supplier to the PV and CSP power markets,” said Bob Stojanovic, ABB's director of solar power solutions in North America. “The key to ABB's success and leadership in North America and abroad has been in understanding the applications and the markets, so that we could continue investing in solutions that will ultimately make solar power more affordable. We believe that by providing products that improve efficiency and lower total lifetime costs, we will be contributing to the ultimate long-term success of renewable energy.”

ABB manufactures and supplies a broad range of products for the solar power market, suitable for the smallest residential building applications as well as large power plants. They are designed to minimize maintenance and increase the productivity of solar installations, to help system operators generate the maximum amount of power and revenue.

Other ABB products and solutions on display at the booth in San Francisco include circuit breakers, disconnect switches, surge protective devices, connection products, large contactors, miniature circuit breakers and fuse holders.
